Let's prepare some unusual Chinese-style chicken wings in Coca-Cola with a golden, glossy, and incredibly delicious glaze.
I was looking for a new, exciting way to prepare chicken wings, and I found it. When I need to impress guests, I cook these Chinese sweet chicken wings recipe. Thanks to its simplicity and originality, this dish is perfect for a family dinner and can also be made for special occasions and parties with friends.
Moreover, this is the easiest way to make wings with a sweet glaze. If you add hot pepper, you get the most delicious spicy-sweet chicken in an Asian style. If you love spicy food, you can make chicken wings like those from KFC.
In fact, you can cook any part of the bird with this recipe except for the fillet. Each variation will result in a tasty, aromatic, and very unusual dish. However, none of your guests will ever guess that the main ingredient in the recipe is Coca-Cola. I recommend trying chicken wings in an orange marinade if you love experiments and bold flavors.
Ingredients for 3 portions

- 2.2 lb Chicken wings (1 kg)
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 1.4 oz Green onion (40 g)
- 3.5 tbsp Soy sauce (50 ml)
- 1¼ cup Coca Cola (300 ml)
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 tsp Sesame seeds white
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
- ½ tsp Ground ginger
How to cook

Garnish and Serve
To prepare the chicken wings (1 kg / 2.2 lbs):
- Start by thoroughly rinsing them under water and removing any remaining feathers.
- Use the ready drumettes of the chicken wing.
- If you have whole wings, divide them into three parts.
This recipe does not need the outermost and smallest part, the tip or radial phalange. Freeze the radial phalange in broth, aspic, or chicken chips for future use. We will use the shoulder and middle phalanges to cook the wings in Coca-Cola. Optionally, soak the wings in cool water for 30 minutes to remove any remaining blood.
After soaking:
- Dry the wings with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- Mix 50 ml (1.8 oz) of soy sauce over the wings.
- If you use ground ginger (0.5 tsp), add it to the soy sauce.
Fresh ginger should be added to the pan later. Optionally, season the wings with a small amount of salt.

Peel and roughly chop two cloves of garlic. Rinse 40 g (1.4 oz) of green onion. Set aside the green part of the onion for garnishing the finished dish, and roughly chop the white part to use when frying the chicken.
If you have fresh ginger root, you will need approximately 1 cm (0.4 inch) of it. Peel the ginger root and cut it into 5-6 slices.

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan. If using fresh ginger root, add it at this stage and fry for 1 minute. Then, add the marinated chicken wings to the pan.
Fry the chicken wings over slightly higher than medium heat until they are golden brown on all sides, turning the wings regularly to ensure even cooking.

Once the chicken wings are browned on all sides with a golden crust, add the chopped garlic and the white part of the green onion to the pan. Stir and fry everything together for 2-3 minutes.
If you prefer spicy wings, add fresh or dried chili pepper or a spicy sauce such as Sriracha or Tabasco at this stage.

Pour 250 ml (8.5 fl oz) of Coca-Cola over the wings, ensuring it covers the chicken more than halfway. Depending on the size and depth of your pan, you may need to adjust the amount. After adding the Coca-Cola, it will start to foam moderately, so be careful to prevent the foam from spilling over.
Use regular Coke or Pepsi, but if desired, you can use diet Coke without sugar. The taste of the finished dish will be slightly different but barely noticeable.

Reduce the Coca-Cola mixture over medium heat, maintaining a steady simmer. Please do not cover the pan with a lid, as this will cause the chicken to stew, which we do not want. Stir the wings frequently to ensure even cooking and glazing. The entire process takes about 25 to 35 minutes. For a larger batch, it may take 40-45 minutes for the liquid to reduce and form a glaze.

The Coca-Cola will almost wholly evaporate, thicken, and become a glossy sauce during this time. The wings will be coated with a delicious, golden, sweet, sticky glaze.

Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle the browned chicken wings with toasted sesame seeds and the green part of the onion. Serve hot with your choice of side dish and a spicy chili sauce or Sriracha.
